Ian,

I'm well aware of SS's reputation. I've used them on and off (mostly off) since 1997 and have had my share of trouble with them. But I've also had trouble with others. Though Shonut and Performance Plus are just superbly reliable, in my experience.

Anyway, many years ago I purchased two Y-pipes from SS, and yes both are rusted, but just a little. The same goes for the first Dynomax cat-back I had. I installed a new Dynomax two years ago, at which point I also started garaging my car, and wouldn't you know it, no more rust. (Note, I only use my car in the summer time, including in wet weather.) So I'm not concerned about the rust part. The fact that it's close to the oil pan is another matter.

Is there a problem with heat so close to the oil pan, or is it just the pain in draining oil that you don't like?

Did you feel any improvement in midrange HP with the equal lenght pipes?
