If they lost the "hardcore faithful" as you say that
would lead to less revenue and profitability. For any
business that is a problem. NASCAR has been around for
awhile and like many old institutions it is difficult
to break a mold that was set a long time back.
If you look back into history a bit, there was a time
when baseball and boxing were primarily all white
sports. Obviously that has changed. I don't think it
means that whites have gotten less athletic and that
other races have become super athletes; I think it
means that society's perceptions and prejudices change
with the times and eventually it becomes more
acceptable and commonplace to find different people in
different positions. This isn't even a sports thing;
our military has been changing radically over the
years just to name one institution.
