I think for a car to be legal, it has to represent 51% of the production of
that model, with a minimum of like 20,000 units sold.
The teams would be allowed to remove the upholstery and install safety
equipment. They could make changes to the exhaust systems but no other
engine components. The would use appropriate racing tires but they would
have to be in the same size that the vehicle was sold with. They could
change spring rates and shock rates but otherwise would have to use the
stock suspension geometry. Maybe then we would have some interesting
vehicles for sale at dealers.
