For all to see:

Its a pretty easy process. The hardest part is getting this giant nut off 
the top of the housing to get the insert out. This is the point where you 
have the greatest chance of scratching the shaft by slipping off the nut. I 
use a big channel lock, a breaker bar, and put a piece of pipe insulation 
(the styrofome type) around the shaft so that I would hit the insulation 
instead of the shaft if i slipped.
