Do Silverstars even need an upgraded harness?  If not, do they perform
better/brighter with one?

I'm talking specifically about first gens here.

BTW, Advance/Discount Auto Parts has them for $30 a pair before a $5 rebate.

No, the silverstars do not require a harness. However to get the maximum
potential from the bulbs, or for that matter any bulb including stock, it
is, IMHO, the best money you will spend on a mod that really matters.
