Nothing wrong with that technique.  I did that, too until I got better
instruction.  You know, all that work and I haven't played in 25 years.  I
could be making union scale today, but if you've noticed, today's pop music
doesn't use real instruments anymore.  Just synthesizers and lots of
percussion.  Good thing I got my degree, I guess...:)
