[Shotimes] Peter Egan Thoughts

For those who have ever built an engine and prepared to
start it for the first time:

I found an old Road & Track magazine that had gotten buried
before I read it. The column by Peter Egan was about how he
finally got his Jag XKE project car going after a four year
restoration.

This was one of his classic tales of working with British
sports cars, and I particularly like this thought (not an
exact quote, but close):

"When starting the engine for the first time after the
rebuild, I reached for the starter button and felt like a
Neanderthal Man. Shaking a stick at a Woolly Mammoth having
never seen one before, and wondering what would happen."

Many of us have been there. I almost fell out of my chair
when I read it.

Egan is one of the best automotive humorists alive, and the
only reason I subscribe to Road & Track.
