OK, so I finally got a reply from Summit on their wiring harness.

My questions to Summit were:
----------------------------------------------------------------
I have a few questions about your headlight wiring harness kit (sum-890031):
- Does it come with a fuse holder?
- What size wires (gauge) does it use?
- Is it meant to be directly connected to the battery?

Summit's response was:

Michael,
The SUM-890031 wiring harness connects directly to your vehicles battery, to provide power, through relays, to the high output headlights. It includes 16 gauge wire and no fuse holder.

So based on this info I will NOT buy the Summit harness since it doesn't come with fuse holders and 16-gauge wire is not good enough IMO.

Assuming a maximum length of 10 foot 16-gauge wire is needed to properly route a wire from the battery to the headlight (and remember, some people have batteries in the trunk), a current of 10A (100W bulbs at ~14V) through such a wire would yield a voltage drop of 0.4V.

A 14-gauge wire would present a 0.25V drop.

A 12-gauge wire would present a 0.16V drop.

Ian, the only pic I have is the one in the catalog. And based on comparing that pic to the pic from the Competition Limited, they look to be the same.

I have sent Summit a question about this harness, asking them if it has a built-in fuse and what size/gage wires they are using.

I'll let you know what I learn.
