Ron,

ACtually, the 2000's won't have four years knocked off, they 
are still good for the same time period before the 05's come 
out as after, but you just lose four or five years of use 
because they are older.

Right now for SCCA use, the oldest sticker is 1995, and that 
is what we go by at the SHO Club conventions.  I think these 
will be valid till 2005, or 10 years.

A 2000 helmet bought now, will be good till 2010.  A 2005 
helmet bought next year will be good till 2015.

As you were pointing out, you get the most value if you buy 
a helmet the same year as the new Snell sticker.

I just wanted to point out that as of that point, four years 
aren't knocked off, they are just lost due to the overlap of 
sticker sales.

Too bad they can't just update the sticker every year.
