1. Do greasable tie rod ends wear out and go bad? I
would assume that the ball and socket could wear but
how does one determine if they have gone bad or not?
I've replaced them before but after some thought today
I am really not sure if my old ones needed replacing
or not. I have the front wheels off of the car in an
attempt to track down a vibration/rubbing sound. I
greased the tie rod ends just now. If I grab them
while they are in the spindle, they do rock back and
forth but as a ball and socket assembly isn't that
normal?
2. rotors-my 1 year old wilwood rotors are starting to
show some signs of small grooves running around the
rotor. They aren't deep but they are there. After a
year of driving, is this normal? I've had it happen
before and I replaced the rotor but I never did find
anything wrong with the calipers or the pads that
would cause any grooving. As the weather turns colder
and I don't really have a good space for working on
the SHO anymore, I am losing motivation to tear things
apart unless it's really necessary to fix it.
I did find a leaf in one of my calipers so hopefully
things are better now. I am about to put the wheels
back on and go for a test drive..If the noise is still
there I am assuming a bad wheel bearing. (easy to
check with the brakes off of the car but I don't feel
like unbolting the wilwoods and having the shims fly
all over the place) Maybe I should put in an offer for
the 1980 something Nissan Sentra down the street.
Winter beater 5 speed. :-|
