You have the wrong perspective. Of course you do, since you drive an SHO.
No SUV alive can compare to the SHO in pavement driving. The post started
with respect to 4WD performance, which is where the Jeep excels. I've
driven mine (belongs to the AWA actually) fast over dirt roads with
excellent stability, I've driven it straight up mountains and straight down
the other side. I don't care for driving it around town because as you say
it is mushy, but the AWA absolutely loves hers. From another viewpoint, the
interior of her 99 model looks much better than the interior of my
coworker's Exploder or my other coworker's Navigator.
Here's another story- my uncle was a newspaper editor but his alter ego was
as an automotive journalist. He went to all the car introductions and so
forth. When Jeep brought out the original Grand Cherokee he was invited to
the introduction on the King Ranch, Texas. They had plenty of Jeeps for the
visitors to drive, as well as examples of all of the competitors. Now my
uncle drove a lot of cars, and his personal daily driver was a 1966 Corvette
427 (my old car). After driving the Jeep he told me that if I ever drove
one I would buy one. Since I liked my SHO I made sure to not drive a Jeep,
at least not until the AWA decided she might like one. I saw some video
that my uncle had from the introduction- he and another journalist were
driving a GC on some back roads of the ranch. He was driving and his
passenger was filming. The passenger was narrating and so forth, and panned
over to the speedo to tell how fast they were driving when he found out that
they were doing 85 on a back road of the ranch.
