Actually, the term "record album" comes from back in the Victrola days. With 1 song/side of a 12" record(and not vinyl)and sometimes 1 song per record, to get a collection of songs they came together in a big book - a record album. Like a photograph album. So, if you can't call a CD an album, you can't call a 331/3 vinyl record an album either.

There's nothing wrong with calling a cd an "album", as it's still a collection of songs. "Album" does NOT mean vinyl.
No flames intended, but it irks me when people correct me when I call a cd an "album".

and still many more vinyl albums than cd albums.

Hmmmm. I also find I'm buying less new music. I hope it doesn't get
worse. Music has always been right-side of the brain therapy for me,
especially when I'm driving solo. Looking forward to getting the new Mark
Knopfler album (oops, CD).
