[Shotimes] Exhaust manifold leak

Ed;
I just changed my engine in the last couple weeks, so am familiar.
One - I'd be surprised if manifold to head gasket is leaking, gasket is very
strong, and bolts are very large for this application. Confirm with spray
bottle of soapy water.
Two - The top row of bolts is gonna be a b****. I pulled my front manifold
but left the rear one on when I swapped engines. I'd suggest pulling the rad
and the front motor mount, loosening the rear one, and tilting the motor
like 4 inches forward. That should give you enough room. You'll need to work
from underneath. Pull the halfshaft, etc. The manifold needs to slide off
the bolts and they are pretty long, and it is very tight back there without
moving the engine. Autos do have some more room than MTX. I've got my old
engine on a stand so if you need a meaurement I could probably provide it.
Manifolds just went in the trash yesterday, sorry.
Lee
Ps: Confirm that the leak is not at the pipe flange, or the y-pipe to
tailpipe flange. My 280k mi. 89 wore right thru the sheetmetal exhaust pipe
there due to engine rock and had a leak down there. Only $20 exhaust shop
fix for new flange piece.
