[Shotimes] crank sensor question

Here's a question.  If your crank sensor was bad, would you still
be able to push start the car?  A friend of mine's Contour SVT is
giving him problems.  Sporadically won't start, but will 15 minutes
later.  Quit running once.  But he can push it down his driveway
and have it start right up.  It seems to me you shouldn't be able
to do that, but what do I know.  Comments?
