I've ran a 14.9 in my 90. As far as beating 5.0's... Yes and no. An aod 5.0,
without any mods, easy kill. A 5-speed, without any mods, depends upon the
driver of the 5.0, and whether he has the 2.73 or 3.08 rear gear (hint, 2.73
cars are dogs, the 3.08 was optional), a good driver will be dificult to
take right off the bat, but if you plan on getting into triple digits, you
will take him. Any 5.0 with spray, a gear (3.73 or better), heads, cam,
slicks, drag radials (the last two, hopefully the track is really sticky and
they break an axle for your easy win). 99+ GT's are fast, and a stock SHO
does not stand a chance against one, unless the GT has big-n-littles, and
you are racing on a road course. Pre-99 GT's (5.0's and 4.6's) are pretty
easy, unless heavily modded.
Now, my favorite kill - a BMW 540iA. I pulled him on I75N, coming from
Atlanta back to Dalton. He was running, but I pulled him hard from about 120
in 4th. Rode 4th to ~7400rpm (weird, didn't seem to run out of steam, and
was still accelerating hard), and noticed the speedo was way past the 140mph
mark. By this time the 540i was 15 or more car lengths behind. I got off the
interstate, and stopped at wendy's to get a drink. The guy in the 540i
followed (wtf? I thought). He was just wondering how a Ford Taurus could
outrun his 540i (this is when I found out it was an automatic, don't try
this against a 6-speed, you will lose). The fellow was impressed with the
Yamaha engine. This happened back when I hated anything with the letters B,
M, & W. Oh well :-) I've succomed to the dark side, and will sell the SHO in
2005 :-( and start looking for another Bimmer, possibly an early 90's or 88
M5 or an M3 4-door (if you can afford the upkeep on an SHO, you can afford
this car too!!!).
