[Shotimes] OT - Test drove a Subaru Legacy GT today

I'll come clean, I have a bit of a Subie bias....

In current tests, the STi is around a 13-flat in the 1/4, the Evo is around
13.7........it will take $$$ just to get the Evo to run like an Sti. 2.5
liters in the Sti versus 2.0 in the Evo help out a lot. I know that both
have a LOT of performance parts available for engine/brakes/suspension, but
I'll give the nod to Subaru for having more go-fast parts for a lower cost,
since there are more performance Subie models than the one hot model (the
Evo).

For ordinary folks, as you know, driving technique is a LARGE element. As
I've learned, an AWD STi or Evo is a harder launch to get right than a FWD
car like a SHO. Same issue with any turbo AWD, actually.

Styling is highly subjective, but I can't warm up to the looks of the Evo.
Proportions just aren't right.

Not to hijack the thread or anything...

I'd personally prefer an EVO over an Sti. Better
looking and can be made much faster for less money.
Better handling and road feel from what I have been
reading too.

There was a WRX vs EVO shootout here in NJ 2 weeks
ago. I overslept but my friends went. The EVO's
trounced the WRX's including the STi's. I'll have to
dig up the thread on the EVO forum-it's an interesting
read on the results of that day.

Ian
drove an 04 350z the other day - why am I car window
shopping?
