[Shotimes] Power Antenna Oddity

OK, can someone out there explain this to me?
 
Last weekend I went to replace the broken antenna mast on my 92 (it has been broken since I got the car) and once I put it in, I noticed that it went up when the radio was off, and down with the radio on.  After double checking the connector (which only goes together one way), the only thing I could think of doing was just cutting and switching the wires between the connector and the motor.  After switching them (I have pictures if anyone wants to see) the motor works as intended. As far as I can see, the car is pretty unmolested, so it doen't seem like someone ever messed with the radio harness.
 
Any ideas?
