If it was me I would get a new filter and gasket and do the entire fluid
change. If you didn't want to do that you would need a clean pan to catch
the fluid so you could reuse it, remove the pan, and check the condition of
the gasket. You can't patch it from the outside and get it to work. Some
cars come from the factory with pure RTV instead of a gasket, and depending
on where you go you can either buy a filter with or without an actual
gasket. I think you could clean yours and put it back with some RTV which
is what I would do, or you could be brave and put it back with only RTV and
no gasket.
As for the bolt you could pull another one out and either measure it or take
it to the hardware store to match.
> Greetings,
> My small leak from my transmission pan has gone from small to large.
Should I go looking for a gasket or just get some RTV and hope that does it?
I haven't been able to find the gasket on line, but I've not looked
everywhere yet. It seems to be coming from beneath some bolts, but they're
tight and around the edges, so RTV should work, right?
> Also, while I was under there, taking a look, I noticed that one of the
bolts that seems to go through the oil pan into the tranny is gone. Are
these just standard bolts I can buy at the Depot? It's the one right above
the oil drain plug, perpendicular to it's position. I know that's vague,
but these are standard type bolts, correct? Does anyone have the size and
thread type?
