I knew a guy who was an avid motorcyclist, and he used to carry a
liability form. In the states where you were not allowed to pump your
own gas he would pull this out and tell the attendant that he needed
to sign the form which said he was responsible for any and all damages
resulting from his work, such as a sratched tank of fuel spill. Or,
they could just allow him to pump his own fuel. He said no one ever
signed the form, but almost everyone would concede and just allow him
to fill his own tank.
For those who don't own, or have not owned, a bike, it is a lot more
difficult to fill a motorcycle tank, and actually get it full. This
is becasue there is no filler neck and you can't just jam the pump in
and wait til it clicks. You usually need to fill slowly too becasue
of the shallow nature of the tanks. It is definitely a bit more
involved, and it you are not carful the handle of the pump has a
fairly good chance of scratching your tank.
