This has been my experience with EGR-less MTX SHOs. There was one in my fleet back
in the 2000-2002 era. It passed CA smog fine back then, but we didn't have NOX
checks yet. After I sold it, the new owner had to put it on the dyno after a couple
of years. It passed everything else fine, but the NOX was about twice the limit. I
put new cats on it, along with a new Y-pipe, but it still would not pass....readings
were identical. For some reason the new cats would not "light off", according to
the smog shop guy, a friend of mine. When the exhaust is cool enough to leave your
hand in it after the car has been running for an hour or so, including cruising on
the freeway, that is the problem....the cats cool the exhaust, rather than cleaning
it. There was no know reason at that time, and I haven't heard anything different
since.
The car passed after pulling the 10 degree jumper plug next to the PCM connector.
The numbers for it were the same as yours....good except for NOX. Just pull the
plug and test it, and then drive it. There can be many explanations for Snow's cats
to be better than SHO SHOs.....different manufacturer; different year model, plus
the other things mentioned, like oil consumption, etc. You'd need to be a chemist
to figure it out....so just pull the plug.
As for the incorrect labeling of the speeds.....there are as many dumb people out
there as smart people....we all just have to make allowances for them. I know one
thing...there aren't any dumb people on THIS list!!
