[Shotimes] New Jersey... was: Subarus and stuff

I had inadvertently read something about NASCAR awhile back, and it seemed
like the dumbest idea in the world (not that it was unique for them!). Don't
know if they shitcanned it or not. NASCAR stuff in my car mags just gives me
more pages to skip.
They wanted to standardize on the engine, and have semi-unique bodies for
each mfr (pretty much like today).
That seemed bass-ackwards to me. Since fans already accept a 2-door RWD
Taurus for NASCAR, it seems to be that standardizing on the body for
everyone, letting them sticker-em-up to sorta look like a current model, and
letting them use their "real" engines (stuff they actually sell today)is the
way to go.
Drop the displacement to 4.5 - 5.0 liters, or whatever it takes to
eliminate the restrictor plates...the viewing fan can't tell the difference
between a pack of cars doing 160 or 200. Let them use their production
engines. Ford has all OHC, GM has both, so they could pick OHV or OHC. And
D-C has their Hemi. Use EFI, nobody sells carbs on street cards anymore. If
one engine kicks everyone's ass, make 'em drop displacement.
And let them go to bigger than 15" wheels!! If nothing else, they could save
$$$ on getting better brakes that don't need those special foot-wide
calipers/rotors to stop the car!!

Saw some test footage of their "car of tomorrow" at atlanta several weeks
ago. I'd have to say that's about the ugliest racing vehicle I've ever put
my eyes on. I hope they make some serious cosmetic changes before that
bring that turd out
mark
