Yes you summed it up in less words than I can.
Good tires are faster, and yes they are expendable, and yes Don, the fastest
tire at the track isn't the same as the fastest one at an auto-cross. But
the fastest ones still only last a couple track weekends.
Ron; I also had a hard time with non-repeatable courses. Until I fell in
with the fast group. We would all arrange to go to the same autocross on the
same day, even if it meant driving 200 miles. Then we would base our times
against the fastest of our group. Sometimes A was fastest, sometimes B.
Worked great even if the track was not repeatable.
If none of our group showed, it was not a lot of fun beating the locals by
2-3 seconds.
