[Shotimes] 89 SHO Stalling When Going from High RPM to Low

Scott, the VSS is located inside the transmission (follow the flexible
cable from the firewall down toward the tranny... the cable is the
speedo cable that attaches to the VSS) and it has little plastic gears
that can be worn down over time. The cruise control may or may not be
related (I don't know) but what I do know from personal experience is
that a bad clock spring can make the cruise control not work. Of course,
if your clockspring goes out, the horn won't work either... so either
way... but it does sound like a bad VSS. I think www.shotimes.com has an
article on this. Check in the maintenance section. I know Doug Lewis and
Don Mallinson still contribute frequently. Josh Teixeira I don't know
about... I used to see posts from him but not so much recently. I know
other "old-timers" (from what I hear) like Ron Porter and George Fourchy
and Al Fitz and Joseph Van Oss and Bob Gervais (who runs Anonda
Motorsports if I recall - they make strut tower braces) are still
around. I myself am fairly new, only having been on the list since
November '03. I drive a red '94 ATX and my wife drives a blue '95 ATX.

Oh, and the SHO Shop sucks even more now.

Hi Dave,

Very interesting...........My cruise control has worked off and on for
the last little while, but stopped working altogether about a month or
two ago. Can't say that I've had the stalling problem since then. Where
is the VSS located? Is the bracket you mention for the cruise control
cable located near the throttle body?

  Thanks!
  Scott

  Hi Scott,

Sounds more like a bad VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor). Does the cruise
control
work?

Also, make sure the bracket that holds the cruise control cable is not
bent,
partially holding open the throttle.

Hi All,

Long time since I've been back on the list. Last time I was here, Don
Mallison, Doug Lewis, Josh Texiera and others were
contributing..........hope they are still around. :-) It was always a
great
list back then.

My 89 continues to run (mostly well), but has recently run into a
stalling
problem when coming out of gear and coasting to a stop. Tach goes down
to
500 rpm or less and either stalls or bounces back up to 700-900. This
issue
does not seem to occur when simply stopped and reving the engine. My
suspicions are either IAB/ISC or Throttle Position Sensor, the latter
having
been changed twice before since I've owned the car (1994). Removed the
IAB/ISC sensor last night and though it had some dry black sooty
residue, it
did not appear to be clogged. The pin inside the larger half of the
sensor
appeared to move in/out freely.

Anyone with similar problem and if so, how did you fix?

Thanks!
Scott
