Most MTX's that have a close to 1:1 ratio in 4th gear will dyno in that gear
on the dynojet, and will pull from idle to redline much faster than it would
under load in 4th gear on the road, especially considering the beating wind
resistance will do to the rpm rev rate. In other words, a gain (or
reduction rather) in driveline rotational weight is probably going to show
up on a dyno, more than it will in the real world. The light flywheel/light
tires/wheels is going to be more noticable in the first couple of gears,
then less once you get into 3rd, 4th, etc.
That being said, lighter wheels (or lighter tires specifically) will make
more of a positive difference in HANDLING for open track, than they will add
in a straight line for open track. The tires are more important though,
since they are farthest away from the axle centerline. Ie, a 40 lb
tire/wheel combo with a 15 lb wheel and 25 lb tire wouldn't be as beneficial
as a 40 lb wheel/tire combo that had a 25 lb wheel and 15 lb tire (if there
was such a thing)
