[Shotimes] update on my '93

Sorry your 93 died. Isn't this the one that had no oil for a short period?
Option A) $2200 for a properly rebuilt 3.8L engine is a pretty good deal.
(But I wonder if a SHO motor is close to that $ figure.)
Then there is the matter of installation labor...more $$$
I'd guess a total install for a Jasper engine would run $4-5,000 for
comparisons sake.
Option B) On the other hand, if all that killed it was one run on low oil
pressure, why not just get the crank reground? New bearing set (mains &
rods), and some labor, and you are good to go.
It's not too much fun to do in the car, but a lot cheaper than a new engine
install, and just as sound if done properly.
Only a few hundred $.
Maybe $5-800; kinda like a clutch job.
The top end of these engines normally wears very slowly, so unless you've
got 150k or more on it, why bother?
Just as long as the rod ends didn't turn "blue" from too much heat, you
should be fine.
If they did, your mechanic should let you know.
Then you pull the engine.
Then pull the rods and rebuild them, or at that point, overbore everything
and install 3.2 pistons/rods like Ian did.
Option C) Do it yourself: FYI: Just pulling the engine is costly. My total
bill was about $1600 for parts only for a 3.0 engine pull & rebuild.
Included all rebuild gaskets, bearings, sensors, radiator, belts, shims,
hoses, lift rental, engine stand, etc. for an engine swap but not much in
the way of engine machine work (maybe $200). Free engine + no labor costs.
(My Poor back)
Could be done for less, but it is still a whole lotta labor!
Good luck
Lee
