Those that go to the conventions know that I have been
trying to get across the concept of going slow to learn the
track in order to be faster, safer as the day goes on.
Some have questioned this, although most know the wisdom in
that concept.
Well, for those that don't, read the latest Autoweek. On
page 39 is a story about Dale Earnhardt Inc. (DEI) sending
two of their young hot shoes to a special advanced Bob
Bondurant school to learn road racing so they will be
prepared for the few road courses in the Busch series.
Now I am not a fan of Bondurant the man, because he stiffed
and shorted the SHO conventions three times, but the man
does have a good school, and he can find good teachers.
For this exercise, DEI had them bring in known road racer
Ron Fellows. There can be NO doubt about his credentials,
and he has been an instructor many times.
to quote ron: "These guys are quick learners and definitely
aren't afraid to go fast, in fact, we've told them to slow
down and concentrate on being as smooth as possible. Be
smooth and the fast part will follow."
There you have it!
