[Shotimes] ATX fluid question

When you say "I just ended up using the type of ATX fluid recommended for
fords", there could be all sorts of options. There is a Type-F, Mercon and
Mercon V which are all 'recommended for Fords'. Your '93 ATX is supposed to
have Mercon. Your PS system is supposed to have Type-F.
If you have never flushed your system, I would suggest that you do that. A
good ATF is Amsoil's Synthetic Universal Transmission Fluid
http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/atf.aspx There is a good write-up on either
www.shotimes.com or www.v8sho.com on how to completely flush the fluid. You
should flush your PS fluid also if it's never been done and Amsoil makes a
fluid for that as well, http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/art.aspx

OK, while the topic was fluid types for the MTX, how about a switch to an
ATX
question.
When cold, my '93 seems like it does not want to shift at first. However, in
warm weather its fine. Is this due to the type of ATX fluid I used (recently
changed some fluid due to a filter replacement), or is it that an ATX with
130,000+ miles is ready to go?? I just ended up using the type of ATX fluid
recommended for fords
Thanks
bob

Yep, I think that's the best way. When I used cheapo gear oil in the '91
(in
the rare green '95 car) tranny, there were folks on this list that claimed
that the tranny would meet certain destruction! My belief is that use
whatever makes it shift good!!
Folks have also used the dino-based GM or Valvoline Synchromesh fluid I
the
later trannies with success.

Well my 90 shifted ok with the ATF, After I did the clutch ATF went back
in and it was a bit harder to shift and I won't swear to it Ron but I
think you and I had this conversation at Lapeer and switched to the gear
lube and it was pretty good. Then I did a 50/50 mix gear lube ATF and it
shifts great now. So I would say use what works and play with it till
you find it.
