Ok, ian, difference is that the blood is a moving fluid and is moving
through the artery.  This casues a change in pressure (blocked artery,
pressure goes up).  That's correct in your exhaust anaolgy, also a
moving fluid.

In the case of the oil pressure sender, two things.  One the fittings
and sender size are about all the same as the block, and you are not
changing the size of the sender, just the path that leads to it.  All
of it is 3/8 NPT iirc, anyway it doesn't matter.  Two the distinct
difference is that this is a stopped fluid under pressure.  A stopped
fluid can only transmit pressure.  So even if the fitting was 300
cubic meters of oil, and you put the pressure sensor into it and the
engine ran...  as soon as the reservoir was filled up the pressure
would be the same as what the pump can push.  The pump can push just
as hard as if that is a 3 ml volume since it is pushing against a
stopped fluid.  A stopped fluid acts much like a solid, just like the
dowel rod comparison earlier today.
