[Shotimes] A/C going, going, gone!

Robert;
It's not all that hard, but you do need some special tools, and a Helms has
almost all the information you need.
Basically, you probably lost your freon charge, probably because you got a
leak. The fact that it tries to come on at all means you got some freon, but
the clutch turns off too quick, so it's most likely low. After all, it's how
old? The o-ring hose-joint seals (all Fords) very typically get a leak,
especially the high pressure one going to the condensor. Look for a
greasy/dirty oil around the a/c pipe joint near the rad. That means you got
a leak. Your compressor may still be ok, when they die they typically go
with a big bang. I suggest turning off the A/C inside the car, or unplugging
the low press control switch til you get it fixed, to protect the
compressor. By the rad, on top of the accumulator, or the compressor wiring
itself.
Tools you'll need: spring lock decouplers, new green o-rings, new
accumulator/dryer line, vaccuum pump, gauge set, freon, oil. I
rebuilt/replaced everything in my old SHO A/C, cleaned it, converted to
R-134, and then paid a shop to "evacuate & charge" it.Worked for me. Lots of
good info on the 'net.
Go for it.
Lee
