Should run you about $60-$80 for a rebuilt halfshaft, plus whatever core charge. You can avoid it by bringing the HS with you, obviously. Getting the halfshaft out is a lot like getting the strut out, but there's a few more bolts to undo. It's pretty obvious when you get down there. And yes, it is most definitely the halfshaft.
