Joseph,

Great story, thanks for starting the thread.

My best memories of my dad were going camping which we did from about
1949 till I was in college (Mom and dad continued to "camp" in a trailer
for many more years). In particular I remember some great summer days
preparing for a trip to the New York Worlds Fair in 1964. Dad traded
his first new car (a 1958 pontiac) for a 1963 Pontiac because he didn't
want to trust a 100,000 mile car for that trip (and I just got through
taking my 100,000 mile '96 SHO to CA last year and track day my 180,000
mile '89) and we moved from tent camping to a new thing called a "Little
Champ". A box with two beds that you had to put a tent up on one side
that more than doubled it's size.

Dad and I were in competition with my older sister and mom to see who
could put it up fastest. We practiced and then came the competition.
Mom and Sis got it done in about 5 minutes.

Dan and I did it in under two! great fun.

But these days I get more fun watching my two sons raise their families
and days like today where they will come over, we will share some
laughs, probably overcook some good beef and remember the good times.
