Mom's last car was a '75 GrandVille coupe with that engine. Rochester carb...jetted
so lean from new that it idled perfectly when warm with the choke half closed. I
couldn't believe it!! When I finally got it, I rejetted it, and the mpg went up
from 13 to 20 on the highway. Never needed to smog it...it's gone now. Probably
polluted up a storm when it was jetted right. Learned a lot about quadrajets with
that one....they were OK to work on once I learned the secrets...jetting, control
rods, and leaks from underneath.
Can't believe that it didn't cook valves with that carb, but it didn't.
Boy, you are dragging up the memories!! ;-)
