Buy em a Volvo, That's what I had... you wanna talk about, big,
floaty and un-cool? It was great :) 1985 240GL, witha non-turbo 4cyl
manual. Yeah, you could flog it all day and it still would not go.
That car would have been fu nto keep though as it has an engine
compartment and trans tunnel big enough to fit nearly anything, like a
BB american engine, but you have to cut a hole in the hood for the big
roots blower. Don't ask, I've seen it done.

No in all reality, tell them that's what they get and if they want a
different car they need to do it on their own. Or put THEM to the
task of finding what they can get for $2k . Just tell them that you
have to agree with what they are getting. (no $2k rusted out mid 80's
IROC's)
