Ram Air was:[Shotimes] silencer cone

Back in 1999, I bought a Pro-M 77mm MAF. The way their instructions read
(I still have these laying around somewhere) you needed to remove the
stock airbox, and the airbox in the fenderwell (along with silencer).
They provided a mounting bracket to affix the MAF housing to the frame.
The first time I started the car after this installation, I could hear
this strong sucking sound that was very pronounced inside the car even
with the windows closed. A pretty impressive sound.

The big problem with this setup is that the air being drawn by the air
filter was coming from the engine compartment which isn't optimal due to
heat. To solve this problem, Vadim designed a CAN enclosure that bolted
up to the opening in the fenderwell. This is really the best way to go if
you get this kind of MAF. The sucking sound gets drowned out by the CAN.

A more cost effective solution is to use the stock airbox with a 75mm
Pro-M MAF and a better air filter, still removing the airbox in the
fenderwell.

Most people will say that enhancing the air intake flow should only be
done once the restrictions on the exhaust are addressed first. This is
more of an issue on MTX cars.
