[Shotimes] Question About Swapping Cams

Yes and No to your swap question. You can just swap the cams, caps and
shims from head to head. After that is all done, you MUST measure and
adjust each valve. You could do this adjustment with the heads sitting on
the workbench (sitting on a couple of 2x4s to allow valve travel clearance).
This will be much easier than doing it "under the hood" and will get them
close enough for operation. I would further suggest that you measure the
valves again after the heads are bolted to the engine block. This would
accommodate any clearance changes caused by torqueing the head bolts in
place.

These motor are definitely non-interference with oem cams. That does
provide certain comforting assurances.

Use plenty of lube on the cam bearing journals and lobes. Tighten down the
journal caps evenly & just a little bit at a time. This will assure that
you won't create any binding the journals as the valve springs start to
compress.

As for timing, the chain sprockets have a mark on each of them. These to
marks need to be aligned as far from each other as possible. When in proper
location they are lined up with the top edge of the head (valve cover
seating surface). For the left head (front Head)(B head) the exhaust cam's
mark will be at 9:00 and the intake at 3:00, as viewed from the end of the
head. For the right head, it's just a mirror image. Exhaust at 3 and
intake at 9.

Frank,
I will e-mail you complete instructions from the Ford Service Manual, with
drawings. This will make cam timing quite clear.

Subject: [Shotimes] Question About Swapping Cams

If i were to swap the cams right now from the still intact 3.0 head to the
dismantled 3.2 head.....

Can i just...

Unbolt the cam caps, move shims over to the new head in proper
sequence...and
then just place the cam over the shims and then cap em?

And if i can, how do i know which way to have the cams facing as in
timing...

For some reason i am happy this motor is not interference but i have to make
sure with everyone on the list....

Then when all is said and done Adjust the valves...

Bottom line is, i got parts in the shed but not valve adjustment
tools....which means i cant remove the shims from the old head before
removing
the cam and vice versa....

For now, i wanna get as much done as i can.....
