I think the current "techno-marvel" engine out there is the LS6 (now LS7) in
the Z06.  It's small (cam in block OHV), physically smaller than your
typical large headed OHC V6.  It exceeds the SHO's stock 1.1 ft/lb - per
cubic inch measurement, while doing it with a 2 valve head.  (350 cubes, 400
ft/lb).  It makes big grunt like a typical pushrod V8, and revs like a 4
valve motor.  Ruler flat torque.  No variable cam timing, etc.  Just a very
well designed motor, small, and light.  Also reacts well to minor bolt ons,
typical intake stuff, and headers (30+ RWHP).  Gets darn near 30 mpg in
sixth on the hwy.
