The City of Minonk voted last night to approve a major race
facility at the northern end of the city right off exit 27
on I-39 (27 miles north of Bloomington, IL).
Web site:
http://www.i39rpm.com
To be included are:
1. 1/4 mile IHRA santioned drag strip with modern facilities.
2. 3/8 mile paved oval
3. 2-3 mile paved road racing course.
NOTE: the "track map" is just a crude example. The road
course won't look like that, but the concept is still valid
of a flexible 2 or 3 configuration course with skid pad.
There is more in the complex. Think IRP at Indianapolis for
the basic model.
This track is withing short driving distance of 10 million
people (most of them in Chicago, but it also covers people
in Central Illinois that till now have had a 3-4 hour drive
for the most part for racing fun).
The owners are exploring setting up a membership system for
the facility or maybe just for the road course. Similar to
what Autobahn in Joliet has done. You pay an annual fee and
get specific benefits in track time, discounts etc.
If interested in becoming a member, or investing in the
track, get in touch with the operations manager, Joe Spence at:
joe750@grics.net
I know most of you on the list won't be close enough to take
advantage on a regular basis, but many of you will be. Let
Joe know your thoughts, this looks to be fun.
