[Shotimes] Diagnose this one

Al;
Doubt it's the CPS. They fail completely. For at least a few moments anyway.
Cam sensor can cause random issues, but usually more like stalling, just try
unplugging it. Mine would not idle without a heavy foot, and you couldn't
drive it when it acted up. Then it would mysteriously vanish. Oil in the
wells should be obvious. I had a bad wire once that crossfired badly, check
the connectors & ohms. They have been known to break internally if handled
roughly. This motor is also very easy to cross the plug wires, check that.
I'm assuming you got no codes. That would mean it's downstream of the ECM.
DIS modules have gone bad, giving random issues, not sure of the symptoms.
But I'd bet they are blamed & replaced more often than needed. It's just a
chip with no moving parts. Check the DIS ground, on the bottom bolts, & the
main ECM ground, on the firewall. My fuel pump died & lost pressure and went
very lean at part throttle, giving a horrible miss. But it was OK at idle.
Don't know the symptoms of a bad coil pack, but have heard of them going
bad, and could be as you describe.
I'd guess & say a bad cam sensor.
Lee
