It's kind of like a really powerful amplifier. If a normal person listens to
it with the volume control set at 25%, the music I usually cleaner (less
distortion) than a smaller amplifier which needs to have its volume control
set at 90% for the same decibel level.

Correct...the more total capacity, the more finesse can be applied to a
smaller job.
 As soon as the bearing starts to move into its spot, the pressure applied
to it
goes down, remaining as small as possible.
