   Yes, a 5 ton is sufficient to press the new bearing in, but I had access to a nice press with a tonnage readout on it that said it took about 12 tons to press the old one out.  Who would have thought we'd get rust in Arizona?  I ended up stopping and rechecking straightness about five times after it read 8 tons before just going for it (had a spare spindle, just in case).
   And yes, you can damage the spindle.  Ford decided to forego giving us any convenient, level spots to brace the spindle on a press.  He'll end up with several different size/thickness spacers all over the place just to get the bearing square with the press.  I've done this about three times myself, and had it done twice (two SHOs and a GL, all '89 model year).
