[Shotimes] transferring a windshield

We used to cut them out with piano wire- you find a spot with good access
and from the inside you force the piano wire to poke out through the rubber
sealant and grab it with pliers. Now you have someone inside of the car and
someone outside of the car, each grabbing onto the wire with pliers, with
about 2' or wire between the 2 pairs of pliers. You pull the wire around
the perimeter of the windshield, cutting the sealant as you go and basically
unzipping the windshield. I've seen lots of windshields cut out this way
and not damaged. Strangely though the last time I saw one removed from a
Taurus they used a more conventional cutting tool and it did damage the
windshield.

You can probably find someone in your area that will come to you and do the
work. They can tell you how likely it is to be successful. There are lots
of these people around- I see them driving around in a pickup or flatbed
truck with a load of windshields on the back. Since my dad's shop was in a
small town he used to have a windshield guy that came through once a week.
He would bring whatever windshield we ordered and install it for us.
