I took the sliding portion of a Gen 1 steering shaft out of a carcass at PnP, both
to have it as a spare, and to see how hard it was to take out. The column isn't all
THAT hard to take out, but again, the car I was working on didn't have to run
(properly) after I was done. I didn't have to cut or yank anything, and all the
plugs were easy enough to unplug....I did have to take the MFS off before it's plug
would come off, I think...it's been a while.
There wasn't any plastic on the Gen 1 part. I'd still try to fix it with shims,
rather than trying to reheat or reshape it...
