Well, yes and no. As I recall from my years of stuffing mechanical lifter
cams in V8 chevies, a proper mechanical lifter cam is ground to provide a
transition, or "ramp", to take up the valve clearance before really getting
into the lobe. I wonder if a regrind of our cams has this shape integrated
into it.
