No. Changing the rim width will change the way the wheel sets, and changes
the load on the bearings.

Frankly, I wouldn't even worry about bearings loads unless you run those
ridiculous rims that hang way out of the body.

As in the example with my wheels, adding a 1/2" of rim width (about 13mm),
then having 7mm less offset, keeps the weight on the hub about the same, so
theoretically I have no more weight on the bearings.

It's a leverage effect. If you add 1" to the rims with no change in offset,
1/2 of that goes to the long" side of the rim, which has a greater leverage
against the hub than the "short" side, which also has a 1/2" added.

OK, help me understand something then. I'm starting to get myself confused.

I believe "ground zero" is +42mm offset, regardless of rim width. Thus
getting wider rims shouldn't make a difference on the stress, as long as the
offset is the same.

On the other hand, I would think that any time you move the wheels out (or
in for that matter) you change the stress on the bearing, cause you are in
effect changing the relative pivot point when you insert spacer, or when you
install wheels with a different offset.
