Cam, shim and valve stem tip wear would cause it to open up.
Valve seat wear would cause it to shrink.
Usually both happen at once, so it's hard to predict which one dominates.
As long as it was in-spec I would leave it alone. Remember the spec is a
range not one number.
If it's out of the spec range I would change it.
Too loose would cause extra vibration and possible accelerated cam wear.
Too tight could burn a valve.
