I don't know where you/they got that definition...around here winter is when I start
shrinking my power bill by not having to run the house air conditioner until 3 AM
every night so I can sleep.  From Nov. to Jan. I can turn it off after the sun goes
behind the roof of the house next door (we are a single story with a couple of 2
story houses to the west).  That'll happen in another month.  And....I can also stop
taking 6 hour showers while I am working on the car(s).....I stop drowning in my own
sweat when the outside ambient temperature goes below about 80F/27C.  

Winter......pffth!!!
