Hi VO,

You must be referring to Autometer C2 series. I have four of them installed in my car.

Initially, I used the switched 12V supply to power the meter gauge and use the adjustable lighting supply from the dimmer for the "blue" light cause I wanted to dim the glow when I dim the rest of the dash.

I don't remember the color codes on top of my head right now. But I can find them for you if you like.

At first, I thought the "blue" light looked cool too. But after a few mins of glow at night, I got real tired of it. The glow was too distracting to me. Too overpowering.

So what I did was to reduce the lighting voltage to the meters until it was to my satisfaction and then measured this voltage (Vgood). I then connected an ADJUSTABLE LINEAR VOLTAGE REGULATOR (about $4) to the full switched 12V supply and adjusted the voltage of this regulator to Vgood. I also inserted a separate fuse for the lighting (between regulator and 12V supply), just to be safe.

Now it still looks cool and at the same time I can safely look out the windshield at night.
