Actually, this discussion has gone past my threshold of giving a crap.

Can we talk about something else, like religion or ???

Actually it is piracy. Did you see the link in the email I sent earlier?
They addressed this exact thing. If you rip it for yourself, it's 'fair
use'. If you lend it to your brother/neighbor, it's piracy.

Again, not the same thing. What part of "Broadcast" vs "DVD/Content" don't
you get? The DVD has all of the commercials edited out, has tons of extra
features and often extra footage (and let's not forget the packaging). The
BROADCAST version of the show has been paid for by the advertisers and was
openly available to anyone with a pair of rabbit ears. Sharing that with
someone who missed the initial broadcast (as in, Fox's OWN sharing of the
show) is not a violation of copyright 'nor is it "pirated".

Ripping the DVD version and distributing it WOULD be a copyright violation.
Sharing a copy with a friend - well, you do what you want. If I have
something on DVD/TV/DVR/CD/Whatever a buddy wants, he's more than welcome to
it.
