I think the auction company gets the hit.  They guaranteed the auction.  So much for their title search...
  
  Of course, they will go after the guy that put it up for auction,  etc.  This could be a long and circuitous investigation.  Or  the moron that stole it could have put it up for auction and this will  end very soon.
