Ahhh!
This brings back memories from olden days.
Eight of us swapping rides in the late 70's ...all vintage ponycar
musclecars...couple Z28s, a fuelie vette, Boss 302, Boss 429, 428SCJ Mach I,
and a 340 6 pack Cuda. The SCJ was the most memorable and the most
different ...idled at 400 rpm, shifted it at 1100rpm and it still caught
rubber in all 4 gears!!! Only took it past 2000 once. With the 4.30 locker I
think it was in fourth by 25 mph. Gawd what torque. Quite the opposite from
the 302 Boss which was the most finnicky, idling at 1200rpm and had no guts
til 3500 when it turned on like a light switch! However the Boss 429 was the
real animal of the bunch. Half throttle meant full sideways at 80+ mph, even
with 4 guys on board!! We guessed 500+hp. Wish they had video cameras back
then. With stereo.
